Be A Good Guest In A Homestay

Learn about the Culture of the Place

Culture can be a very important aspect of a person’s life, especially in Asian countries. So, let’s say, for instance, you are booking cheap flights, take some more time and read up about their culture too. This will help you gel well with your hosts and make you seem less foreign.

Be at Your Best Behaviour

Remember that when you are lodging at a homestay, you are using someone’s home. Before you start your stay, ask them if they have any specific rules you need to follow. This way, you will not be disturbing them while enjoying your vacation. Also, be warm toward them so that they don’t have a skewed idea of the country you are representing.

Treat it Like a Homestay

Most often people forget the basic difference between a homestay and a hotel stay. At hotels, staff members will be at your beck and call. They will assist you with anything you want. But when you are staying at someone’s home, they might not have the manpower to do so. Try and help out as much as you can. If it’s not too much of a work, keep your room and bathroom as clean as possible. Additionally, try cleaning up after you have finished your meals.

Care for their Home

People often host guests to earn some extra cash on the side but that doesn’t mean, it’s not difficult to give up a portion of their house to strangers. Which is why, as guests, it becomes your duty to take care of their furniture and infrastructure. Don’t damage the property and try to treat it like your own home. Remember that someone has built it with as much love and care as you built your own.

Hotel Bargain

Some hotel owners deem it wise to make some profit than none hence their booking sites offer an auction service in which the customer can bit on a room in a particular hotel. This is beneficial for both the owner and the customer, the latter gets a discount and the former makes a profit. Search for these if you can.

For those who allow a little more leeway on where and when they want to go on their vacation, daily deals and last minute deals can offer amazing options. Other sites include ‘dealofthedayholidays’. Here you can find really good holiday deals available from a variety of options.

The price of a hotel room isn’t something which is set in stone. It can vary considerably throughout the year, and sometimes even within the same week. Again, the key is flexibility. If you can be flexible in your bookings, then you can manage a steep discount. As a rule, Sunday and Monday nights are usually the quietest for hotels and if you book your room on these days, you’ll most definitely get a bargain.

It’s also to advisable to take a good look at the hotel you will be staying at. If it caters mostly to business people, a weekend stay might be cheaper. If, on the other hand, the hotel is primarily for tourists, a bargain will be possible during weekdays.

Traveling during the off season will save you immense costs, both for flights and hotel prices. Check out the peak holidaying months for a particular location and go a month before or after. Prices also rise sharply during school holidays, so be sure to avoid going when the schools are off.

It’s a good idea to try to negotiate a price with the hotel directly. If you ask politely enough, many hotels are open to discussion what discounts or deal they may have. This works especially when the business is slow (like in the off season). Some websites may give you a good deal but they may include hidden costs so it’s always a good idea to contact the hotel in any case.

Cities to Stay in Youth Hostels

Berlin

It should come as no surprise that Berlin is home to a number of first-class youth hostels. Their charm, character and commitment to quality service cannot be denied, but in the end they reflect the mood of the city itself. Berlin’s alternative culture is famous all around Europe and is, in fact, one of its biggest attractions to young travellers. From art shows in Kreuzberg and street music in Alexanderplatz, to pub crawls across the city and alternative tours of many of the iconic bars and museums, there is liveliness to this city that could very well make a short stay a longer one.

Paris

Many people who are looking for a luxury experience would not look twice at budget accommodation, and this is especially true when they are considering visiting the icon of high culture and fashion, Paris. But this city understands the art of budget travel as well as it understands art in general. There is more nuance and finesse to this grandest of cities than the mere luxurious trappings, and the cultivated parks, bustling avenues, lively nightspots and exquisite cuisine will infuse your entire experience with an unforgettable sense of class – even if you are on a budget.

London

It is hardly a secret what age demographic flocks to youth hostels (although they are certainly not ageist) so the ideally crafted experience lies in an energetic ambience – one that is found in spades in London. Whether your interest lies in cuisine, music, art or theatre, from Soho to Shoreditch this is one city that knows full well the art of budget travel lies in spending as much time as possible out and about!

Barcelona

The hallmark of the most successful youth hostels lies in the ability to cater to the diverse variety of tastes that can walk through the door at any moment and request a room. Unlike hotels, there is an expectation of vibrancy and activity that sets these places apart. For those who visit Barcelona, the entire city is conducive to this kind of ambience, and from enjoying tapas in El Gotic at night, to exploring the gorgeous beaches and iconic Park Guell in the day, the city perfects the experience like no other.

Rydges Darwin Airport Resort

My review of the Resort overall is that from arrival at the airport where we were met by the courtesy bus driver to reception where we were upgraded to an executive suite and daily servicing of the room was like the cleaners did an exit clean ever day. As such not only did they strip the linen, make the beds, the did full cleans of the bathroom, kitchenette, lounge and vacuumed. They had 24 hour security which patrolled the whole complex each and every night (I only realised after we left that the detention centre was in walking distance from the resort) The whole facility was well managed, the pool and the pool area was used often as well as the gym. The in-house bar was a great place to unwind without any bothersome rowdy people. The staff were more than generous with their assistance and provided excellent customer service each and every time. The grounds people always said a cheery good morning. The whole experience of staying at Resort Rydges was a positive one, the only downfall was the location. Because the resort is situated on Federal Government Property, public transport does not come any where close to the resort which means if you don’t have a car you need to walk quite a fair distance to catch public transport and it costs quite a bit to hire a taxi to go to the city. So my suggestion is book a vehicle for your stay, as the airport is in short walking distance you can quite easily go over and talk to the people in the car rental kiosks. Or just ask your friendly receptionist and they will take care of all of that for you. Our apartment was a one bedroom with spa bath ensuite and balcony which overlooked the reserve. The apartment was suitably furnished with a 3 seater lounge and two single seaters, dining room suite, full foxtel channels and king size bed. Having a background in resort cleaning I can as soon as I enter an apartment I usually can see areas of concern regarding cleanliness. In the case of this resort, I couldn’t find anything to mention and I opened everything and looked under everything. My recommendation is in regards to Star rating I would give this resort a 4.5 if not a 5, I would highly recommend this resort as a place to stay.

Book Cheap Hotels Near Airports

Make Use of a Search Engine

First of all, what’s a search engine? One thing, it’s not remotely as grandiose as it sounds. It simply means a search engine that takes your input and uses third party search engines to dig up results. So, if you search for a booking with your desired attributes, like price, location, star grade, etc., it will piggyback on another search engine, say the mighty Google, to gather information specific to your query.

It’s possible to ask, “why not just go to different hotel websites or some discount site to get what you’re looking for? Well, that’s what you’ll be doing with a search engine actually, except you will have results from website A, B, C, D, and any other necessary sites as one. This will reveal the cheapest rooms that you can book easily.

Contact the Hotel Directly

Getting cheap bookings for hotels near airports might simply involve calling the one you’re considering. You don’t have to be a genius to figure this one out. It’s obvious, but it can work wonders in two ways.

Firstly, not all airport hotel deals are advertised online. It may be done through one medium or another but sometimes, it is not done using all means you might expect. But one thing you can count on is the stuff being privy, to what’s cheap and what’s not at all times. Calling them directly is definitely a great way of getting to the info.

Secondly, hotel stuff will give you insider information as to why airport hotel prices are high. It might be due to some conference, convention, or even a concert by a big time musical entity. With this info, you can then focus your scouting on areas a good distance from the high-demand parts.

Look for Cancellable Rates

This trick involves playing unfaithful with multiple bookings of different hotels near airports. In a nutshell, you find cancellable rates, then monitor them until the last moments to end up with the cheapest.

The essence of the trick is that room rates go through considerable and relatively rapid fluctuation. What’s low now may soon be high as quickly as within a couple of minutes. As the uncheatable law of supply and demand would have it, the more people are booking, the higher the prices. It is important to make sure that the rates are actually cancellable.

The Kind of Accommodation

To make sure you settle for the best, you should also consider the options available to you in terms of the different kinds of accommodation. There are hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, resorts and hostels to choose from.

The Time of Travel

Timing your travel right might also be your ticket to getting cheap and budget-friendly hotels. Travelling during off-season to your destination of choice you are bound to be exposed to lots discounts to enjoy an affordable stay.

Use a reliable destination management company

This might be the easiest way you can go to find budget friendly hotels to take care of your needs. The good thing about management companies is that they offer you a complete package of hotel accommodation, transportation and even parking. These kinds of packages will not only ensure that you spend a reasonable amount of money on your accommodation but will also take the worries of having to organize everything else off your shoulders. Such companies partner with local hotels, transportation companies and hotels to enhance your travel experience. You will have the liberty to select the package you feel is best for you to ensure you enjoy your destination to the maximum.

Look up Travel and Comparison Websites

Travel and comparison websites give you a detailed accommodation comparison chart with factors such as type of accommodation, amenities and prices. You can settle for a hotel that offers the most reasonable rates.

Check the Website and Customer Reviews

After you have shortlisted a few hotels, you should visit the official website. This is for two reasons. First to check if the hotel has the facilities advertised on travel websites and second to avail discounts that are only displayed on their official website. Also, read customer reviews to check what their real experience was like.

Chelsea Gardens Hotel Apartments

The staff at the hotel was attentive to my needs and indeed, very helpful. Rachel, the receptionist was extremely cooperative and hospitable; she made the check-in process quick. The prices were very reasonable compared to other similar 4 star apartment hotels. This one was sheer value for money.

Coming down to the rooms, which were notably spacious and had all the facilities such as a washer, dryer, refrigerator, kitchen supplies, microwave and some nice modern furniture. This made cooking and doing the laundry fairly simple and completely removed the hassle of getting the laundry done and finding a good restaurant for food. The room wasn’t gaudy in any way – decorated in neutral shades it was quite calming. The balcony overlooked the ‘Discovery Gardens’ which were aesthetically pleasing to look at each morning.

The hotel had an array of services and amenities making the stay as comfortable as possible. There was free wi-fi access in all the public areas of the hotel and access in the rooms for a minimal fee – exactly what I needed. Just across the street was the Geant hypermarket from where I purchased my daily groceries and they sold everything – from pin to piano. The ‘Ibn Battuta Shopping Mall’ with its historical charm and beautiful architecture was a short walk away; I was visiting the mall almost every day mainly for the food court which had a wide variety of restaurants and chains. I really loved the European and Asian cuisine served by the in-house restaurant ‘Wharf’ that I happened to try on multiple occasions.

The scrumptious breakfast buffet (which I may add, was included in the rate) was served fresh and hot every morning and the menu was different each day. The breakfast was sufficient enough that sometimes I would even skip lunch. The hotel had a 24 hour room service and the butlers were very prompt in their response to any request.

The warm touch, convenient location and affordable prices made it a great place for me to stay for an extended period of time. I stayed in the Chelsea Hotel Apartments on a number of occasions since then, and has become my favorite each and every time, be it a business visit or a family trip to Dubai.
